"THROWBACK" THURSDAY

Welcome To Throwback Thursday, as we remember the Things Our parents taught us That some have forgot...

I remember being a child and always hearing the word "MANNERS". so what does this word mean? Why do I need them? These are the things that parents would make sure you knew and use everyday. there were even books to teach this, and at that point the teachers would make sure that manners were included in their lesson plans. What has happen to this major part of society. What has happen to the use of Thank You, Yes Ma'am, No Sir, Please and Your welcome? Why has the art of being respectful and polite begun to slowly fade away?

I know that growing up being rude was not an option. So I made it my business to instill the same things into my kids. As I look at the next generation I am sadden that the simple things like manners is unknown to many kids today. I see so many kids disrespecting their elders, as well as each others. What is worst this behavior is not corrected. How have we as adults come to a point that we do not demand the use of manners. One thing is for sure the ones like us that demand it have to work very hard to remind our kids, because it is easy to follow suit with others that seem to get away with it.

In order for children to use manners they have to be taught by a person that actually uses them. So much of the learning process comes from just sitting and watching. I have seen so many parents that actually do not display the best behavior, so they feel that it is funny or cute when their kids reflect the same disrespectful attitude. So why is this ok? I remember being a child and it was ok for others in the community to correct your behavior, why is it a big problem to require a child to use manners when speaking to you now a days?  We really need to go back to the basics, the future of our children depend on it.

In order for our kids to see the importance of manners, we as adults need to show them how to use them. We need to let them know that they will get further in life my being polite and respectful. the only way to ensure they know how to use their manners, we must first be a template that they can follow.

  1. You're exactly right. Kids are great at observing us and knowing the difference between what we do and what we say! :)

  6. Manners are VERY important and as the times are changing more and more parents aren't teaching their children good manners. I agree your statement, when I was growing up not having manners wasn't an option. Thanks for this much needed reminder.

  8. Well written. I agree with you. Teaching by example is the best way to teach. Words don't matter much if we don't do what we preach. :-)
